Salik Toll Rates in 2026, VAT Included
Since 1 June 2026 Salik adds 5% VAT on top of every crossing, so the old AED 6 and AED 4 are now AED 6.30 and AED 4.20. Many guides online still show the old numbers.

The rate that applies is the one at the moment you cross the gate. No daily cap is applied under the current tariff; the old AED 24 cap ended in 2013. Ramadan timings can differ, so confirm on salik.ae.

Each pass under a gate is one charge, so a single cross-city drive can add up fast.
One-hour rule: passing Al Safa North and South, or Al Mamzar North and South, in the same direction within one hour is billed as a single crossing, according to Salik’s published rules.
How to Recharge Your Salik Account
Recharge in multiples of AED 50, starting from AED 50. VAT is charged on tolls, not on the recharge itself.
Online and apps
Use salik.ae, the Smart Salik app, RTA or DubaiNow. Quick Recharge on salik.ae works with just a plate number.
Cards and stations
Recharge cards and selected petrol stations or ATMs are also available. Availability varies by location.
VAT and invoices
Salik applies 5% VAT to toll crossings and issues one monthly tax invoice per account.
Grace Periods and Salik Fines
Fines come from letting the balance sit at zero, or driving with no tag at all.

How much is Salik per gate in 2026?
From 1 June 2026, AED 6.30 at peak (6-10am and 4-8pm, Monday to Saturday) and AED 4.20 off-peak, including 5% VAT. It is free from 1am to 6am every day, and Sundays are a flat AED 4.20.
Can this page show my balance?
No. Salik alone holds your balance, so the tool guides you to the official channels and then does the maths: crossings left, days remaining and when to top up.
Is there a daily Salik cap?
No daily cap is applied under the current tariff. An old AED 24 cap was removed in 2013, although some guides still repeat it. Always confirm on salik.ae.
What is the fine for low balance?
Recharge within 5 working days of a low-balance crossing and there is no fine. After that, AED 50 per day with trips can apply.
Does VAT apply when I recharge?
No. Salik says VAT is added to toll transactions, not to the recharge, and shows it on a monthly tax invoice.
What if I am buying a used car?
Check it with our VIN check, make sure the old owner's tag is removed, and get a tag registered to your own account.
