UAE nationals, GCC nationals and all UAE residents can use our pre-RTA vehicle inspection in Dubai. All vehicle types are welcome — private cars, SUVs, 4×4s, pick-ups and light commercial vehicles. Protone is based in Al Quoz Industrial Area 2 and serves the whole of Dubai.

How much does RTA vehicle inspection cost in Dubai?
The official RTA inspection fee for a light vehicle or SUV is AED 150 plus a AED 20 Knowledge & Innovation fee, totalling AED 170 at the testing centre itself. A pre-RTA check at a garage like Protone is separate from this and typically costs less than the repair bill you’d face from a failed test and a second round of fees.
What happens if my car fails the RTA test?
You get a 30-day window to fix the reported issues and return to the same testing centre for a free re-test within that period; after 30 days, the full inspection fee applies again. A pre-RTA check catches these issues beforehand so you only pay the official fee once.
Do I need to book an appointment for RTA testing in Dubai?
Yes — online booking has been mandatory at almost every Dubai testing centre since June 2025, and turning up without one either costs an extra AED 100 or means you won’t be let in at all. Booking is done through the RTA Dubai app or website, and takes a few minutes.
How long does the RTA vehicle inspection actually take?
The test itself takes around 12 minutes for a light vehicle, but total time at the centre — including queuing and paperwork — usually runs 20 to 45 minutes. Arriving with your documents ready and your car already checked over cuts that time down further.
Is it worth getting a pre-RTA inspection before the official test?
Yes, especially if it’s been a while since your last service — brake wear, dead bulbs and tyre tread are the most common reasons cars fail, and all three are quick, inexpensive fixes when caught early. A pre-check turns a possible fail-and-retest cycle into a single successful visit.
Do new cars need an RTA inspection in Dubai?
No — a brand-new car registered to its first owner is exempt from RTA technical inspection for the first 3 years from its manufacture or registration date, whichever comes first. After that, it needs to pass the annual test like any other vehicle.
